A-Shares Rally on November 4 as Semiconductor and Robotics Stocks Surge

Highlights

Chinese mainland equities rose broadly on November 4, with all three major indexes advancing and more than 4,600 stocks gaining. Market turnover reached 20,519亿元, up 3,368亿元 from the previous session. Semiconductor stocks surged more than 10% as investors weighed strong earnings, domestic capacity expansion and policy-driven localization. CPO-related shares rebounded after company updates indicated that most overseas customers had not reduced orders. Humanoid-robot stocks also advanced on reports of manufacturing and home-use trials, international investment plans and new industry standards. The rally was concentrated in technology-related sectors, while consumer and financial groups including liquor, dairy, insurance, pork and banks fell.

Sentiment Analysis

  • Overall tone: Strongly positive for the trading session. The three major A-share indexes all closed higher, the technology-focused ChiNext Index gained 6.4%, and the STAR 50 Index rose 9.92%. More than 4,600 stocks advanced, indicating that the day’s gains extended beyond a few large companies.

  • Positive drivers: Semiconductor earnings and investment data, continued expansion of domestic production capacity, resilient CPO customer demand, and progress in humanoid-robot applications provided a favorable news backdrop. Reports of rising orders and long-term production ambitions reinforced expectations for growth in these industries.

  • Qualifications: The advance was uneven. Liquor, dairy, insurance, pork and banking shares were among the weaker groups, and the article describes the robot market as having structural characteristics rather than uniform participation. Company announcements and analyst commentary also do not guarantee future results.

  • Visual reading: The session’s news sentiment is positive, with meaningful cross-sector breadth but a clear concentration in technology themes.

Chinese mainland stocks rose across the board on November 4. At the close, the Shanghai Composite Index was up 2.16%, the Shenzhen Component Index gained 4.22%, and the ChiNext Index advanced 6.4%. The Beijing Stock Exchange 50 Index rose 4.56%, while the STAR 50 Index climbed 9.92%. Turnover across the market totaled 20,519亿元, an increase of 3,368亿元 compared with the previous trading day. More than 4,600 listed stocks finished higher.

Performance differed considerably by sector. Semiconductors, precious metals, memory chips, electronic components and humanoid robots ranked among the strongest groups. Liquor, dairy, insurance, pork and banks were among the weaker sectors. The day’s broad advance therefore coincided with a pronounced rotation toward technology and selected industrial themes, rather than an equal rise across all parts of the market.

Semiconductors were the session’s leading theme, rising more than 10% as net inflows into the sector exceeded 180亿元 and multiple stocks reached their daily price limits. One external factor was the latest quarterly report from Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), released after the U.S. market closed. AMD reported revenue of $13.38 billion, up 45% year over year and above market expectations. The Philadelphia Semiconductor Index gained 2.63%, with all 30 of its constituent stocks closing higher.

Domestic developments added to the sector’s momentum. On the morning of November 4, ChangXin Technology announced a proposed increase in its share-repurchase amount from “10亿—20亿元” to “25亿—50亿元.” Among semiconductor-equipment companies that had published third-quarter reports, 14 recorded combined revenue of 759.38亿元 in the first three quarters, a year-over-year increase of 19.3%. Their combined net profit attributable to parent-company shareholders was 176.60亿元, up 59.5%. The corresponding year-over-year increases at Advanced Micro-Fabrication Equipment Inc. (中微公司) and Piotech Inc. (拓荆科技) were approximately 241% and 337%, respectively. Delivery schedules at leading equipment companies were reported to extend into the first half of 2027.

Research commentary cited continued demand for AI computing infrastructure, faster progress in domestic semiconductor self-reliance, and expansion of advanced logic and memory production lines. Analysts also pointed to ongoing localization of equipment, components and materials. Guojin Securities described AI computing, semiconductor self-reliance and edge AI as areas for investors to watch. CITIC Securities said the electronics sector’s investment themes in the fourth quarter and 2027 were likely to center on self-reliance and AI computing, noting rapid growth in orders for domestic equipment and components and tight delivery schedules.

CPO, or co-packaged optics, also rebounded after several consecutive sessions of sharp declines. In an announcement released late the previous night, Innolight (中际旭创) said the vast majority of its overseas customers had not reduced demand or orders. Some customers were making product-mix adjustments, while demand for 1.6T products from certain customers had increased compared with earlier expectations. The company said that, even allowing for individual mix adjustments, overall industry demand in 2027 remained within its previous forecast range and demand from leading customers remained strong.

Another company update concerned Dongshan Precision (东山精密). The company said its controlling shareholders, Yuan Yonggang and Yuan Yongfeng, had proposed a total shareholder return of at least 10亿元 for the 2026 fiscal year, subject to the company meeting profit-distribution requirements, avoiding major investment or cash-spending needs beyond its established plans, and preserving its continuing operations and long-term development.

Humanoid-robot stocks continued to rise as reports described progress in both industrial and home settings. During the 2026 World Internet Conference Wuzhen Summit on November 3, Xiaomi (小米) disclosed developments in its robotics business and received the conference’s “Leading Science and Technology Award” for key technologies related to a general-purpose robot manipulation foundation model designed for scaled deployment.

In an automotive factory, a Xiaomi humanoid robot undertook an 8-hour task at a station sorting side covers for a vehicle center console. The company said the system met the station’s full-day production needs, autonomously corrected abnormalities and coordinated with the production-line system. This was presented as an initial validation of production-line-level capability. In a home setting, Xiaomi’s embodied foundation model began trial operations at a Xiaomi youth apartment. An agent system built on the Xiaomi-Robotics-1 pre-trained model completed a continuous task lasting more than 30 minutes, covering 3 rooms and more than 50 tasks.

International developments also featured in the article. Tesla’s third-quarter earnings call confirmed that Optimus had entered large-scale production-line manufacturing in Fremont, and CEO Elon Musk set a target of producing 20,000 units per week by the end of 2027. Nvidia announced an expansion of its Isaac open robotics development platform, adding a humanoid-robot reference platform, datasets and learning tools. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said the company planned to enter robotics and aimed to present a demonstration prototype in 2027.

In China, Wang Xingxing, chairman of Unitree Robotics (宇树科技), said at the World Physical AI Conference that physical AI was showing signs of reaching a breakthrough, which could occur within the next 1—3 years. The article reported that Chinese manufacturers produced more than 400 humanoid-robot models in the first half of the year, with output exceeding 4万台; full-year production was expected to surpass 10万台. The first 6 national standards for humanoid robots had also been approved and were scheduled to take effect on April 1 of the following year.

Research firms highlighted both market potential and the shape of the rally. Great Wall Securities estimated that mass production of humanoid robots could create a 276亿元 market for motors, with frameless torque motors and micro motors as key growth areas. China Securities Construction Investment said recent catalysts, including Nvidia GTC and other industry events, had come after a deep correction in robot stocks. In its view, trading interest had spread from complete robots to core components, reflecting the rally’s selective and structural nature.
