Taiflex Reports NT$615 Million in Nine-Month Net Profit, Up 79.93%; EPS Reaches NT$2.33

Preface

Taiflex Scientific (台虹, 8039-TW), a maker of flexible copper-clad laminates (FCCL) backed by E Ink Holdings (元太科技, 8069-TW), announced its latest financial results on the 28th. For the first three quarters of 2026, the company reported after-tax net profit of NT$615 million, an increase of 79.93% year over year, and earnings per share (EPS) of NT$2.33. Third-quarter net profit was NT$203 million, with EPS of NT$0.77. Alongside the results, Taiflex disclosed a letter of intent with E Ink to explore cooperation on materials for high-speed AI transmission. It also outlined new product development, the role of its Thailand factory, and a cautious outlook shaped by supply-chain uncertainty. This article reviews the reported figures and business plans, distinguishing completed results from proposed cooperation and future expectations.

Lazy bag

Taiflex recorded NT$6.15 billion in revenue and NT$615 million in after-tax net profit during the first three quarters of 2026. Net profit rose 79.93% year over year, and EPS was NT$2.33. In the third quarter, revenue totaled NT$2.493 billion, while net profit was NT$203 million, down both sequentially and year over year. The company and E Ink signed a letter of intent to explore AI high-speed transmission materials, including development, process validation, and contract manufacturing. Taiflex remains cautious about full-year operations because of supply-chain uncertainty, but continues to develop fine-line materials, PTFE-filled high-speed laminates, and laser-bonding materials. Management expects 2026 revenue to remain at the 2025 level.

Main Body

Taiflex Scientific announced its latest financial results on the 28th. The company, which produces flexible copper-clad laminates (FCCL), reported a mixed third-quarter performance alongside stronger cumulative earnings for the first three quarters of 2026. The announcement also covered a proposed collaboration with E Ink Holdings, a sales agency arrangement for semiconductor materials, product development, and the operating progress of Taiflex’s Thailand factory.

In the third quarter of 2026, Taiflex generated revenue of NT$2.493 billion. Its gross margin was 22.77%, a decrease of 0.36 percentage points from the previous quarter but an increase of 4.26 percentage points compared with the same period a year earlier. After-tax net profit amounted to NT$203 million, down 15.75% sequentially and 10.38% year over year. Earnings per share were NT$0.77.

For the first three quarters of 2026, Taiflex reported revenue of NT$7.605 billion and a gross margin of 22.66%. The gross margin increased by 3.54 percentage points year over year. After-tax net profit reached NT$615 million, up 79.93% year over year, while EPS was NT$2.33. These cumulative results show that the company’s net profit growth over the period was substantially stronger than its reported revenue growth, although the figures provided do not specify the causes of that difference.

The quarterly and nine-month figures describe different time frames and should be considered separately. Third-quarter net profit declined compared with both the preceding quarter and the year-earlier quarter, even as the first-three-quarter total showed a strong annual increase. The company’s gross margin also presented two distinct comparisons: its third-quarter margin was lower sequentially but higher year over year, while the nine-month margin was up 3.54 percentage points from the corresponding period. Taken together, the data indicate improved year-over-year gross-margin performance over the nine-month period, alongside a softer latest quarter.

Taiflex’s board approved a letter of intent with E Ink Holdings (元太科技, 8069-TW). Under the proposed framework, the companies will explore cooperation in the development of materials for AI high-speed transmission, process validation, and contract manufacturing. The arrangement brings together E Ink’s foundation-material development and manufacturing capabilities in electronic materials with Taiflex’s research and development expertise and long-standing experience in circuit-board materials.

The companies’ initial plan is for Taiflex to supply key materials for trial production and process validation at E Ink’s Hsinchu and Guanyin facilities. The letter of intent sets out a basis for evaluating the collaboration; it does not establish that broader manufacturing services have already begun. The companies will assess possible subsequent manufacturing services in light of actual progress. The proposal therefore represents an early-stage effort to combine complementary capabilities and explore opportunities in a market linked to AI high-speed data transmission.

Separately, Taiflex said it had signed a sales agency agreement with its major shareholder Chang Wah Electromaterials (長華電材, 8070-TW). Under the agreement, Chang Wah will act as the sales agent for Taiflex’s semiconductor materials in Taiwan. The company described the arrangement as a response to long-term strategic planning and operational needs. The announcement did not provide further details about sales targets, contract duration, or expected financial contribution.

Taiflex’s existing FCCL business remains substantially exposed to mobile-phone and consumer-electronics applications. Those applications account for 90% of revenue from its FCCL products. The company noted uncertainty in the supply chain this year, including shortages involving CCL, passive components, memory, and other supply-chain components. Against this backdrop, management said it was taking a more conservative view of full-year operations and working to improve its product sales mix.

Despite the cautious operating outlook, Taiflex expects full-year 2026 revenue to remain at the 2025 level. This is a company expectation rather than a reported result. The stated forecast reflects the balance between continued work on product mix and the uncertainty created by component availability. The company did not provide a numerical estimate for the effect of shortages or a breakdown of expected revenue by product category.

Alongside its core FCCL products, Taiflex is developing several new materials. These include fine-line materials, PTFE-filled high-speed copper-clad laminates, and laser-bonding materials intended for temporary bonding requirements. The company said development and sales progress for these products remained in line with expectations. Among the products discussed, sales of high-end fine-line flexible-circuit materials were the strongest. Semiconductor materials have also entered a further engineering-validation stage, indicating ongoing qualification work before any wider commercial contribution can be assessed.

Taiflex has completed investment in and construction of its Thailand factory, which is now operating. The facility accounted for less than 10% of the company’s revenue last year. Taiflex said production yield and efficiency at the Thailand plant have gradually reached appropriate levels. With the factory’s operations becoming more established, the company plans to seek market opportunities when conditions are suitable. The announcement did not specify a timeline for a larger revenue contribution or provide a separate capacity or production forecast for the site.

Overall, Taiflex’s update combines a strong nine-month increase in net profit with a weaker third-quarter profit comparison and a conservative full-year revenue outlook. The proposed E Ink cooperation and the development of new materials point to efforts to extend the company’s activities beyond its traditional FCCL applications. However, these initiatives remain at different stages: the E Ink plan is framed by a letter of intent, some materials are in development or validation, and the Thailand factory is already operating but contributed less than 10% of revenue last year. The company’s results and outlook will continue to depend on execution, market demand, and the supply-chain conditions it identified.
