The north-eastern coast of Japan has been struck by a substantial earthquake measuring 7.6 on the Richter scale, as reported by the Japan Meteorological Agency. Occurring late at night, the epicenter was identified 80 kilometers off Aomori, at a substantial depth of 50 kilometers.

In response, authorities issued tsunami warnings, although these have since been lifted after 70 centimeters waves were documented. Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi reported that the quake had led to seven injuries and urged residents to double-check earthquake preparedness measures. She also cautioned against possible aftershocks in the coming week.

Approximately 90,000 people were instructed to evacuate as an immediate safety measure.
