Nigeria's Defence Minister, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, has resigned from his role effective immediately, a decision attributed to health issues, according to the president’s office. This development occurs amidst heightened security crises, notably a wave of kidnappings that have gripped the nation. Recently, reports from the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights revealed that over 402 individuals, mainly schoolchildren, have been abducted since mid-November.

The latest incidents involved armed men seizing at least 20 people, including a Christian pastor, in north Nigeria. Additionally, 250 schoolchildren along with 12 teachers from a Catholic institution in central Niger state remain unaccounted for, following one of the recent large-scale kidnapping attacks.
